(Some) of the Plan

I took my super, incredible, savvy computer skills and drafted up some plans for what I want Casa D. to look like. Behold, my amazing skills using…MS Paint!

As if you couldn’t tell by my amazing artistry, this is the living room area with our couch. Know how I mentioned in my last post that we don’t have a single picture hanging on our walls? I'm changing that. I want lots of pictures because I feel like they help make your house a home. I plan on buying some frames that are matted to 8x10 photographs and hanging them like so.

This is OBVIOUSLY our bay window as noted by the presence of the sun (which we have yet to see in New England this “Spring“). See the yellow and white lines? Those are supposed to be sheer curtains and regular curtains (my MS Paint skills failed me in the drapery department). Our currently brown stained wood trim will be painted a crisp, glossy white and I plan on fancying up the place with some plants. We had a plant once and if not for The Hubs, I would have met a demise much sooner than it did. Hey, I have an active Bear to take care of…who has time for watering plants?!

We are planning on replacing the front door (along with changing the exterior of the home to vinyl siding) but until then, our shabby door will do. No big changes here with the exception of hanging our personalized art via Java Jane Designs on Etsy.
That white thing beside the door is actually another wall with a coat rack. Nothing fancy, just a place for guests to hang their belongings.

What do you think?

27 year old needs facelift

No, not me (yet).

Our quaint little raised ranch was built in 1984. We’ve been living here since October 2009 and haven’t done a damn thing besides install new windows. Now, this isn’t for lack of it needing some TLC because our house still looks circa 1984. I had so many plans when we moved in on how I wanted to decorate it and here we are, over a year later, and we don’t have a single picture hanging on the wall. How sad.

But I’m happy to announce that change is a’coming to the D household!

What took so freakin’ long? My fear of commitment…to a paint color. Our upstairs is pretty open which means I had to commit to one color that would cover a majority of our walls. That scared the shit out of me! I had fears of coming home to purple walls when what I was really going for was a greige color. This brings us to our wall o’ color.

Yes, that’s The Bear rolling around on the carpet while playing with his foot and The Poodle basking in the sun. Just another day in the D household...

I couldn’t even tell you what colors we’ve tried. We tried all sorts of brands from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Behr, Restoration Hardware…been there, done that. We finally settled on a color made by my hero, the O.G. of all that is craft and lovely - Martha Stewart. We went with Whetstone Grey and I puffy heart it. It’s the greige I was looking for without the brown or purple undertones that I found with other colors. I put a ring on it and gave The Hubs the go-ahead to buy buckets ‘o paint.

I have a few things planned for our space but I will leave you with some before pictures. Check back soon (I hope) to see the after pictures and for a break down of what we did and bought.
